Blue Shield will release October and November 2018 renewals in July and December 2018 renewals in August making it easy for your Blue Shield groups to make renewal decisions well ahead of the fourth quarter rush.

Lots of Reasons to Add Blue Shield Specialty Products

  • Earn more with Blue Shield’s 2018 Dental, Vision and Life Sales Incentive Program. Earn $10 per net new member for dental, vision and/or life insurance subscriber sales written with or without Blue Shield medical plans, including adding specialty to existing Blue Shield small group clients.
  • 5% Discount will be applied to dental and/or vision premiums when added to new and/or existing small business medical groups. Discounts apply to all new business medical groups that include dental and/or vision products and to all existing medical groups that add dental and/or vision on or off renewal anniversary.
  • Blue Shield’s Life Insurance Quick Match Program provides streamlined underwriting by matching renewal rates from the group’s current life insurance company. This program is available to new and existing small business groups adding life insurance with 10-100 eligible employees.

Updated Employer Contribution Rule

Blue Shield has changed the employer contribution rule, making it easier for you and your clients to work with Blue Shield. Previously, groups had to choose either a percentage or a flat dollar defined contribution towards employees or dependents but could not mix them. Groups can now contribute a percentage for an employee and a flat dollar amount for dependents, or vice versa.

Please note, employers must continue to contribute the required minimum percentage or defined contribution to the employee premium. Selecting a contribution amount is on the Master Group Application (section 11c on page 4).

New Multi-Year Agreement Reached with Stanford Health
Blue Shield of California and Stanford Health have signed a new multi-year agreement as of June 1, 2018 for Stanford Medical Center and its physicians and Affinity Medical Group. This means that Stanford Medical Center and its physicians will continue to be part of Blue Shield’s statewide network, with no lapse, as an in-network provider for contracted networks.

Blue Shield Members Can Access Health Plan Information Anytime, Anywhere.
Blue Shield’s Online and Mobile Tools have been designed for easier access on the go. The Blue Shield member website provides members easy access to account information and online tools to manage their health plan from any device. Members can look up cost share/copayments whenever and wherever they need to, find information about preventive and wellness programs, view plan formularies and learn how to save money with preferred pharmacies.

Members can download the free mobile app to search for a provider, check status of claims, and pull up their Blue Shield ID card at any time that their coverage is in effect. This can be especially useful when a group is installed just before the effective date – members won’t have to wait for their ID cards to arrive in the mail.
