Q3 Rate Action and Underwriting News

MediExcel 3rd Quarter Rate Action:

To ensure coverage stays the most affordable for MediExcel members the planned Q3 rate increases have been withdrawn and instead MediExcel will issue a RATE PASS for Q3.

Underwriting Changes Effective July 1, 2019:

  • Minimum participation updates (when sold alongside a CA carrier or as a sole carrier)
    • Small Group
      • 1 enrolled employee if Gold Mirror (GM) plan is sole offering.
      • 3 enrolled employees if Platinum Mirror (PM), Ultra Platinum (P5) or Platinum Plus (P20) plans are offered.
      • Two plan options may be offered with a minimum of 3 enrolled employees.
      • Current small groups not meeting new participation requirements will be grandfathered.
    • Large Group
      • 1 enrolled employee.
      • Two plan options may be offered with a minimum of 3 enrolled employees.
  • Employer Contribution
    • Small Group
      • MediExcel is sole carrier: No minimum employer contribution is required.
      • Written alongside another carrier: 50% of the employee rate.
    • Large Group
      • MediExcel is sole carrier: VP5, VP10 and VP 20 plan minimum of 50% of employee rate. QEP and MEP can be offered as voluntary.
      • Written alongside another carrier: 50% of the employee rate.
