What’s New for Small Group Q4 2019

New Trio Medical Group

Effective immediately, Blue Shield has added MemorialCare Medical Foundation to the growing list of Trio providers in Los Angeles County Rating Area 15. The addition of MemorialCare provides Trio members in the area with more options by adding 94 PCPs and 461 specialists to the provider roster. The MemorialCare Trio ACO partner hospital is Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.

It is important to note that only MemorialCare offices located throughout the Long Beach area have been added to the Trio network. MemorialCare locations in Orange County are excluded from this network change.

Sutter Contract Renewed

Blue Shield of California and Sutter Health have signed a new multi-year agreement giving the nonprofit health plan members uninterrupted access to Sutter’s integrated network in Northern California. While the current agreement doesn’t expire until the end of this year, the two organizations were able to renew their contract to extend the network relationship with a new multi-year contract.

Q4 Renewals – New Digital Delivery Experience and More Options Section for Dental and Vision Plans

Fourth Quarter renewing groups will have a new experience with their renewal kits. In order to provide a better customer experience and reduce paper waste, Blue Shield is moving renewal kits online in a manner similar to post-enrollment documents. Each small business group will have a unique microsite containing all materials previously printed and mailed now in a format that is easier to search, share and save.

There are 3 ways to access a group’s microsite:

  1. Shield Renewals for brokers
  2. E-mails sent to group administrators
  3. One-page letters mailed to group administrators

Blue Shield wants to ensure that each group does receive this important renewal information. If a group’s microsite is not accessed within a week, Blue Shield will send a reminder e-mail. If there is still no action after 10 days, Blue Shield will mail a full paper packet to the group.

All Q4 renewal kits feature a new census section that presents different dental and vision plan options for each group’s renewal. This feature is similar to the “Choice Chart” for medical plans and provides groups with specific quoting for the dental and vision plan options presented.

Don’t Forget the Small Business Medical Incentive and Specialty Incentive Programs!

Medical Incentive Program – Earn up to $100 per new medical member!

  • Bonus applies to both new and renewing groups with effective dates from June 1, 2019 through January 31, 2020.
  • Applies to Small Business off exchange sales only, both the OffEx and Mirror Packages qualify. Note: CCSB membership does not qualify.
  • Earn $50 for each new enrolled member and earn an ADDITIONAL $50 for new members enrolling in a Trio HMO or Tandem PPO plan. Note: for renewing groups bonus will be based on net-new membership.
  • Business written through Rogers Benefit Group qualifies for the bonus.

Specialty Incentive Program – Earn $10 per net new member for dental, vision and/or life insurance sales. The more you sell, the more you earn for new specialty business written during the program dates of January 1, 2019 through December 1, 2019.

  • To be eligible for the bonus, the broker or agency must sell a minimum of 2 new dental, vision and/or life groups with effective dates between 1/1/2019 and 12/31/2019.
  • Qualified dental, vision or life cases can be written with or without Blue Shield medical plans.
  • New Specialty plans added to existing Blue Shield small groups qualify.
  • VOLUNTARY dental, vision and dependent life plans qualify.
  • Business written through Rogers Benefit Group qualifies for the bonus.
